Chances are, you probably have a few recreational toys at your vacation home. After all, you are there to have fun! Do not let thieves ruin your fun. Be sure to put your ATVs, bicycles, and canoes in a garage or shed when you are not around. Keep the storage building locked with a strong lock, and if there are windows, keep these covered so crooks cannot see what is inside.
When winter is coming, be sure to get any motorized watercraft, such as boats and jet skis, winterized. A professional can do this for you. Many places that do this also offer storage. You can store these yourself, if you prefer. Again, just be sure they are kept in locked storage with the windows covered. If you live on the water, you may need to pull your dock and boat lift out for the winter. If you are unsure whether or not you need to do this, contact your local dock service company.
If you will be leaving cars or trucks in your garage over the winter and would like them to run when you return, there are a few things you can do. Disconnecting the battery will be the best option if you do not plan on using the vehicle at all for the season. A trickle charger works nice if you have nobody to watch your home and you want to be able to access your home from time to time and use the vehicle. If you have someone watching your home, ask them to periodically start your vehicle and let it run for a bit. Of course, you could also have that person set up a trickle charger or disconnect your battery for you so you do not have to. Just let them know when you are returning so they can get your vehicle ready for your arrival at the end of the season.
